Tuesday Tip: Elude or Allude?

While the two words may sound alike, and even come from the same Latin root word, they really are two very different words.

Elude means to avoid capture, such as:

  • The criminal ran to elude the police.
*A good way to remember this is that both elude and escape start with the same letter.

Allude means to indirectly refer to something. For example:
  • The patient alluded to some health problems, but he wasn't specific.
