One of the reasons I’m so excited about the publication of A Remarkable Kindness is that it fits
into the genre of books that people read and then learn something new—and
unexpected. Readers love Orphan Train
not only because it’s a combination of two wonderful stories but also because
they can say, “Wow, I just found out something fascinating about a hidden part
of American history.” That was how I felt when I read The Kite Runner—I had a deeper understanding of the culture of
Afghanistan.
I hope that my novel will be received in the same way. It gives readers a look behind news headlines about Israel. It also tells the intertwined stories of four American women who are members of a burial circle in a small beach village in northern Israel. I hope that as readers learn about this sacred ritual, they will also be inspired to incorporate spirituality and faith into their daily lives.

Diana Bletter is the first-prize winner of Family Circle Magazine’s 2011 Fiction
Contest. She never, ever thought she’d win but she entered and won, which only
proves that it’s important to take chances. She has been writing ever since she
first learned penmanship in third grade. While raising six children in a
blended family, she did freelance writing for The New York Times, The Wall
Street Journal, and other publications. After many years of hard work, she is

her first novel. She lives in a small beach village in northern Israel near the
ancient ruins of a Byzantine Church and believes that writing means practice,
