Tuesday Tip: A or An

The general rule is that if a word begins with a consonant, "a" should be used. If the word starts with a vowel, you use "an." However, this rule is based on pronunciation of the word, not the spelling.

For instance:
  • a history test
  • an hour
  • a union
  • an apple
  • a university
  • an unfair advantage
  • a U-turn
  • an egg
