Release Date: November 12, 201
Genre: Children's Picture Book, Adoption

Most adoptive and foster children struggle at some point in their life with knowing who they are and where they belong. They want to ask questions, and parents need to be prepared with an answer that helps their child feel loved and secure.

After searching for adoption storybooks to read to her own adopted children, Katie Cruice Smith decided that there was a need for more books that parents could read at bedtime to connect with their adopted and fostered children.

In Why Did You Choose Me?, Katie Cruice Smith answers that question in a way that young children can understand. Drawing from her own experience as an adoptive mom to three children, Katie uses the questions her own children have asked to help them see there never really was a choice she knew right away that they were hers.

With beautiful illustrations by artist Sarah Strickling Jones, Why Did You Choose Me? lovingly demonstrates the uniqueness that each child brings to a family.

Oh, darling, darling child,
You're part of this family!
I didn't care what you looked like,
And you're so much fun to me!

  1. Oh Leslie, what a touching blog. Wow, so many kids young and older needs good homes!
I was adopted when I was 8 yrs old. My niece is adopted and another niece and nephew adopted. My son is adopted, after waiting 17 years of marriage. God finally answered my prayers but HE wanted me to stop what I was doing.
My husband and I became foster parents, took in an older girl for a week then had twin boys for 8-9 months. After they went back to their mom (which we became friends), I looked on different websites for children. When I turned in my paperwork when I found a child, they would email me back and say sorry the child is not longer available. This went on for a while. I finally gave up and thought I wasn't meant to be a mom. A month after I stopped looking, a friend called and said she had a friend that was pregnant and she knew that she couldn't take care of the child. My friend asked if we were still looking to adopt. Of course I said yes and the 3 months later or son was born. He is 9 years old now! He is the love and joy of my life!
